Coinkite launches the original BLOCKCLOCK — a limited edition electromechanical display built to celebrate Bitcoin's 10-year anniversary. Only 500 serialized units were made, priced at 1 BTC each (roughly $4,000 at the time). Each unit was individually soldered, inspected, and hand-assembled.
The BLOCKCLOCK displays the current Bitcoin price, block height, and other blockchain data on split-flap digits. It became an iconic piece of Bitcoin culture, later famously spotted behind Jack Dorsey during his Congressional testimony. Coinkite followed up with the more affordable BLOCKCLOCK Mini and Micro for wider adoption.
