Coldcard makes its debut

On this day in 2017, the world's most trusted and secure bitcoin hardware wallet, the Coldcard, was first announced by Coinkite. Built from the ground up as a Bitcoin-only signing device, Coldcard introduced an air-gapped, open-source architecture with a secure element, PSBT support, and no USB data connection required. Its paranoid security model -- including brick-me PINs, duress wallets, and fully verifiable firmware -- set a new standard for hardware wallet design and inspired an entire generation of signing devices.
