On this day in 2025, Ross Ulbricht received a full and unconditional pardon from President Donald J. Trump on his first day in office. Ross had spent over 11 years in federal prison after being sentenced to two life terms plus 40 years without parole for creating the Silk Road marketplace -- a punishment widely seen as grossly disproportionate for non-violent offenses. The Free Ross movement, one of the longest-running campaigns in the Bitcoin community, finally achieved its goal. Ross walked free after 3,955 days behind bars.
