Hackers compromise the Twitter accounts of Barack Obama, Elon Musk, Joe Biden, Apple, Bill Gates, and dozens of other high-profile figures to promote a Bitcoin scam promising to "double your money." The attackers gained access through a social engineering attack on Twitter employees and collected approximately 12.86 BTC (about $117,000) before the scheme was shut down. The mastermind turned out to be a 17-year-old from Florida. The incident exposed critical security flaws at Twitter and ironically gave Bitcoin massive mainstream media coverage.
