This is Gentlemen!

2014-11-11Culture & Community

On this day in 2014, an overexcited Reddit user in the r/BitcoinMarkets daily discussion posted "This is gentlemen" -- accidentally omitting the word "it" from the phrase "This is it, gentlemen." The typo, made during a modest price uptick in an otherwise brutal bear market, was instantly iconic. The Bitcoin community adopted "This is gentlemen" as an ironic rallying cry, deployed whenever the price shows any sign of life. It lives alongside "HODL" and "Have fun staying poor" in the pantheon of Bitcoin's accidental meme canon.
