Free Ross Day

2013-10-01Culture & Community

On October 1, 2013, Ross Ulbricht was arrested by the FBI at the Glen Park branch of the San Francisco Public Library for his role in creating and operating the Silk Road marketplace. He was later convicted and sentenced to two life terms plus 40 years without the possibility of parole -- all for non-violent offenses. The severity of the sentence galvanized the Bitcoin community and launched the Free Ross movement, which campaigned for over a decade until his pardon in January 2025.
