Lightning Labs releases lnd 0.4-beta on March 14, 2018 (Pi Day), the first mainnet-ready Lightning Network implementation. Co-founded by Elizabeth Stark and Olaoluwa Osuntokun, Lightning Labs had been developing lnd since 2016. The beginning of Bitcoin's Layer 2 scaling era -- instant, near-free payments built on top of the most secure settlement layer ever created. ACINQ's eclair and Blockstream's c-lightning soon followed with their own mainnet releases, creating a diverse multi-implementation ecosystem.
