Running Bitcoin Day!

2009-01-10Protocol & Technical

On this day in 2009, Hal Finney posted the legendary tweet "Running bitcoin" -- just seven days after Satoshi mined the genesis block. Finney, a renowned cryptographer, cypherpunk, and creator of the first reusable proof-of-work system (RPOW), was the first person besides Satoshi to run the Bitcoin software. The next day, Satoshi sent him the first-ever Bitcoin transaction: 10 BTC in block 170. Hal's two-word tweet is now considered one of the most iconic moments in Bitcoin's history, and Hal is forever memorialized as a true icon of the movement.
